Bio
Todd Wells
Date of birth: December 25, 1975
Hometown: Durango, CO
The love of cycling is more than enough to draw the best cyclists away from their day jobs. This is exactly what happened to Todd Wells. He began his cycling career as a BMXer but quickly switched to MTB once he realized that is where his talent lied. Todd progressed as a mountain biker but living his dream to be a professional cyclist was put on the backburner when he quit racing seriously and went back to school to receive his Bachelor's degree at the University of Arizona. After graduation Todd found a full time job working for the computer company, IBM. But it wasn't soon after Todd started his job at IBM that he started to ride his bike again. It didn't take long for Todd to realize that his true love was cycling and that he needed to pursue his dream as a professional cyclist.
Todd's successes have been built on a solid progression of hard work and good coaching. Early in Todd's career he worked with his coach, Rick Crawford and Ned Overend. Todd has passed this knowledge on to his younger, GT XC team partner, Burry Stander. The hard work has paid off during Todd's successful career. His first big break came during his first collegiate championship win. Todd continued his achievements to win another collegiate championship and three National Championships! During this time Todd was signed with GT Bicycles and began his current career with the company. Todd received the prestigious honor of representing the United States in the 2004 Olympics and will be representing the U.S. again during the Olympics this year in Beijing!
Todd's life is very interesting off the bike as well. He shares a home with his wife of five years, Megan, and their dog, Winston, in the cycling community of Durango, Colorado. During the off-season Wells perfects his golf game and relaxes on the beach. Not that Todd gets much downtime, he races all summer on the Mountain Bike circuit and all fall on the Cyclo-cross circuit (of which he has won numerous national championships as well).
Look for Todd to bring home a solid finish this year at the Olympics in Beijing and another reason to confirm that his love of cycling has helped him fulfill a lifetime of dreams.
